Our Tasks

Museum

• Collecting and preserving historical cultural assets
• Maintenance and preservation of around 10,000 cultural-historical exhibits related to regional history 
• Restoration and museum-technical measures
• Conservation maintenance of external museum depots
• Digital scientific inventory of the museum collection
• Continuous revision of the permanent exhibitions (cultural history and natural history)
• Didactic preparation of collections and topics for different target groups
• Scientific research, organization, and implementation of special exhibitions
• Museum educational work for all generations
• Collaboration with schools and other educational institutions in the district
• Support and annual redesign of the “Kultur-Zeit” at the Museum Haus Dahl branch
• Conceptualization and implementation of the annually held “International Museum Day”

• Conceptualization and implementation of cultural projects (concerts, readings, and lectures)

Our Performance in Numbers

The Cultural Office is a branch of the district administration and is housed in Schloss Homburg. The Museum Schloss Homburg sees itself as a modern cultural-historical district museum with around 60,000 - 80,000 visitors annually. The extensive museum educational program - intergenerational - records around 400 guided tours per year. Schloss Homburg, as part of the Regionale 2010, an NRW structural funding program, is undergoing a museum expansion with two glass pavilions for special exhibitions, events, as well as a museum shop and entrance foyer. Additionally, the Red House is being structurally expanded with a visitor service station. A separate operations building is being created on the lower castle grounds for depots, workshops, and operational facilities. Planned for 2013/2014, the Museum and Forum Schloss Homburg will reopen with a year-round operation, alternating every six months for external and internal use, and aims to achieve new figures with an ambitious program.
