The District Regulatory Office - Department for Residence and Nationality of the Oberbergischer Kreis shapes immigration and controls the influx of foreign individuals into the district area by deciding on entry, residence, employment, integration, and naturalization of foreign nationals. Currently, approximately 35,500 foreign nationals use the services of the Department for Residence and Nationality.

Of these, 36 percent are individuals directly from the European Union, and 15 percent each are individuals with Turkish and Ukrainian nationality. 44 percent of the foreign nationals come from approximately 140 other countries.
