Our Responsibilities

The Oberberg District is the local provider of social assistance, the provider of benefits for education and participation (BuT), and the municipal provider of basic income support for job seekers.

Some benefits are decided by the cities and municipalities, while the tasks of basic income support for job seekers are handled by the Job Center Oberberg. The Office for Social Affairs is responsible for supervising the proper execution of these tasks.

A focus of the tasks directly handled by the Office for Social Affairs lies in the area of care. In addition to providing financial benefits under Chapter 7 of SGB XII, it is our responsibility to ensure an adequate support structure for older and care-dependent individuals. This includes coordinating local senior and care counseling and district-wide care planning.

Another focus is on services for people with disabilities. This primarily includes decisions on:

• Applications for the determination of a (severe) disability,
• accompanying assistance in the workplace for severely disabled individuals,
• integration assistance services for people with significant disabilities

Additionally, the Office for Social Affairs oversees care and disability facilities, carries out tasks in the area of social housing promotion, and provides specific services to support the reintegration of unemployment benefit II recipients.

Our Services in Numbers

We provide benefits to ensure livelihoods for almost 18,000 people every month.

With approximately 32,000 severely disabled individuals in the Oberberg District (about 11.8% of the population), we process 550 applications for the determination of a disability every month.

We advise an average of 200 companies or severely disabled individuals per year on the design of a disability-friendly workplace and fund equipment with nearly €300,000. We advocate in 80 dismissal protection cases for the interests of disabled employees. In the area of care assistance, we support more than 1,100 recipients of benefits in fully inpatient facilities and approximately 130 recipients of benefits in outpatient form.

The oversight for care and support facilities advises, reviews, and monitors more than 230 facilities and services.

Up to 400 people receive integration assistance benefits.

In the area of social housing construction, we issue an average of 600 housing entitlement certificates, exemptions, and interest certificates annually.
