STADTRADELN 2026 in the Oberbergischer Kreis 3,607 active cyclists covered a total of 802,659 km

“With the STADTRADELN 2026 campaign, we achieved another record level of participation in the Oberbergischer District. We managed to encourage even more people in the Oberbergischer District to switch to cycling more often in their daily lives, thus saving CO₂”, said District Administrator Klaus Grootens at the conclusion of the campaign. “The STADTRADELN campaign initiated numerous events that sent a strong signal for solidarity, health, and environmental protection. I thank everyone who contributed to this excellent overall result for climate protection and sustainable mobility in the Oberbergischer District with their enthusiasm for cycling and team spirit.”

Statistically speaking, every cyclist covered 223 km, which translates to about 2.94 km per resident when calculated based on the population of the Oberbergischer Kreis.

The cycled kilometers and the corresponding CO₂ savings for the participating municipalities and teams can be viewed on www.stadtradeln.de/oberbergischer-kreis and on the subpages of the cities and towns.

Additionally, all cyclists can see their personal CO₂ savings. These numbers make climate protection more "tangible."

Matthias Thul, Mayor of the City of Bergneustadt:

“The STADTRADELN campaign is a successful combination of community, sportsmanship, and climate protection, and this is also demonstrated with great commitment in Bergneustadt. With 49,964 kilometers cycled, we once again surpassed last year’s performance. Together, we made a significant contribution during this year’s STADTRADELN, and the active participants did something good for themselves and the environment. I am very proud of this achievement.”

Lukas Miebach, Mayor of the municipality of Engelskirchen:

“Over 300 cyclists, 18 teams, and more than 77,000 kilometers – these are impressive figures that we as a municipality can be proud of. Raoul Halding-Hoppenheit, Mayor of the City of Gummersbach:

“75,971 cycled kilometers by over 380 cyclists from Gummersbach in 20 different teams! A remarkable achievement that shows Gummersbach loves cycling. I would like to extend a big thank you to all the citizens of Gummersbach who participated in the STADTRADELN 2026 and thus set a strong example for sustainable and healthy mobility. And now, let's keep cycling!”

Mario Moritz, Mayor of the Castle Town Hückeswagen:

“This year again, Hückeswagen has proven that cycling is of great importance to the Castle Town. During this year's STADTRADELN, we were able to increase the total kilometers cycled to over 130,000 km.  I am particularly pleased, of course, that Hückeswagen was able to reclaim first place in kilometers cycled per inhabitant in Oberberg from our neighboring town Wipperfürth.

This shows me that we should not relent in our efforts to make Hückeswagen even more bike-friendly. I thank all the diligent cyclists who have not only done something for their health but also saved a lot of CO₂.”

Sven Engelmann, Mayor of the Municipality of Lindlar:

“STADTRADELN 2026 shows how much we can achieve together for a sustainable and livable future. With over 30,000 kilometers cycled in more than 1,500 trips, an impressive result was achieved. Particularly gratifying is that this commitment avoided around 5 tons of CO₂. Behind these numbers are people who consciously choose the bicycle every day, making a valuable contribution to the climate, health, and quality of life in our community. I sincerely thank everyone involved for their dedication and wish them continued enjoyment, safe rides, and many more kilometers.”

Sebastian Heimes, Mayor of the Municipality of Marienheide:

“With 158 cyclists, we set a new record for participants in the Municipality of Marienheide. Even though we didn’t quite reach the kilometers cycled last year, we managed to surpass the 40,000 km mark again this year, an impressive achievement for the second smallest municipality in the Oberbergischer Kreis. The STADTRADELN shows that cycling is booming, and I’m already looking forward to next year.”

Jan Schumacher, Mayor of the Municipality of Morsbach:

“This year's STADTRADELN was a complete success. Never before have so many citizens of Morsbach participated in STADTRADELN as this year. This great commitment shows how important sustainable mobility and collective effort are for our community. My heartfelt thanks go to all participants who set a strong example for climate protection, health, and quality of life with every kilometer cycled.”

Thomas Hellbusch, Mayor of the municipality of Nümbrecht:

“STADTRADELN has once again motivated many to cycle. I am pleased that this time more residents of Nümbrecht participated than last year. The bike tour offered by the municipality and the Nümbrecht local heritage association was also well received. I hope we were able to provide an incentive to use the bicycle for everyday routes as well.”

Dejan Vujinovic , Mayor of the City of Radevormwald:

“STADTRADELN 2026 has once again demonstrated the great commitment of the citizens of Radevormwald to sustainable mobility and active climate protection. My heartfelt thanks and sincere compliments go to all citizens who participated and contributed a valuable effort with every kilometer cycled.

I have also once again realized how pleasant it is to travel by bicycle. You experience your surroundings more consciously and are significantly more relaxed than in a car. I would especially like to congratulate the three most successful teams: Bistrorante, Radsport Nagel, and the Bürgerbus team. Their efforts were a major contribution to this success.

I hope that many will carry the joy of cycling beyond the competition period. Every kilometer covered by bicycle instead of by car is a win – for the climate, personal health, and the quality of life in our city.”

Jan Gutowski, Mayor of the Municipality of Reichshof:

“The STADTRADELN 2026 has shown how great the commitment to sustainable mobility is in Reichshof. My heartfelt thanks go to all participants who made an active contribution to climate protection with every kilometer cycled. I am delighted that with the RECYCLISTS, Scemtec Hard- & Software GmbH, and the open Team-Reichshof, three teams have covered more than 3,000 kilometers by bike. I would also like to particularly highlight the Schneppenhurth Allstars, who impressively covered 2,251 kilometers with just two active cyclists.”

Larissa Weber, Mayor of the Market Town Waldbröl:

“The STADTRADELN has once again shown how many people in Waldbröl are willing to come together to promote health, climate protection, and sustainable mobility. My heartfelt thanks go to all participants who pedaled with great dedication and thus set a strong example for our town.”

Ulrich Stücker, Mayor of the City of Wiehl:

“The results of this year’s STADTRADELN in Wiehl are impressive: More teams than ever before – 50 percent more than in 2025 – and a 13% increase in participating residents of Wiehl show a remarkable development. Together, more than 51,000 kilometers were cycled, and around 8 tons of CO₂ were saved. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who contributed to this.”

Anne Loth, Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Wipperfürth:

“Over 150,000 kilometers were cycled by the citizens of Wipperfürth. That is outstanding and a great achievement. Particularly special this year were the joint rides together with neighboring municipalities. A huge thank you to all cyclists and teams who participated in STADTRADELN with so much enthusiasm and commitment, contributing to climate protection.”

The international campaign STADTRADELN by the Climate Alliance Service aims to encourage as many people as possible to switch to bicycles in their daily lives, thereby contributing to climate protection.

STADTRADELN is designed as a competition. Participation was open to anyone living, working, belonging to an association, or attending a (higher) school in the Oberberg District. Participants could either ride for one of the participating municipalities or the Oberberg District.
