Oberbergischer Kreis. In addition to drivers, pedestrians and bus passengers will also benefit from the upcoming construction work on County Road 46 in the Gummersbach-Niedernhagen area. On (Rose) Monday, February 16, 2026, the measures for road drainage and thereby also the reconstruction of the roadway and the adjacent bus stops will begin. "As part of the necessary drainage measures, we are utilizing the construction site to additionally establish a central island as a crossing aid for pedestrians and to make the bus stops there barrier-free," says County Building Commissioner Felix Ammann.

The approximately 270 m long construction area extends from the intersection area of the parking lot access road of Eaton Company to the intersection towards the Siepen locality. In this section, the existing drainage channels will be rehabilitated and partially completely renewed. Additionally, facilities for cleaning and retaining the resulting road wastewater will be constructed.

"In parallel with the drainage measures, the roadway will be renewed. The road surface will be adjusted to increase traffic safety. This also includes the construction of a new pedestrian crossing aid. It is intended to provide a safe crossing of the county road, especially for pedestrians. Additionally, the two 'Niedernhagen' bus stops will be made barrier-free in this context. Both stops will receive, among other things, a new curb system and elements for pathway guidance and orientation - for example, for visually impaired people. Furthermore, the bus stops will be equipped with sufficiently large waiting areas," explains County Building Commissioner Felix Ammann.

During the work, Schemmener Straße (K 46) will be predominantly closed to one side. Traffic will then be regulated by a traffic light system, adapted to the individual construction phases. To minimize inconvenience for residents and businesses, the measure will be carried out in several, temporally coordinated construction phases. Only the intersection to Obernhagener Straße will be completely closed for an extended period during the necessary work. For traffic safety and to ensure occupational safety, the county road must be briefly completely closed during the installation of the asphalt surface layer. However, even during this time, restricted access for local traffic will be possible.

During the full closure, a large-scale detour will be set up for through traffic. It leads through the localities of Mühlenseßmar (L 323), the Gummersbach city center, Windhagen, and Kalsbach (B 256).

The construction work is expected to be completed by the end of May 2026.
