Family office opened in Waldbröl New meeting point for families

Oberbergischer Kreis. After the successful launches of the family offices in Morsbach and Hückeswagen, a family office has now also been opened in Waldbröl. Representatives of the Oberbergischer Kreis, the sponsor Internationaler Bund (IB) West, and various institutions and projects gathered for the official opening at the city center, at Vennstr. 4.

The family office is intended to become a central point of contact for families seeking support, advice, or guidance. Prevention is at the forefront. Since 2021, the district youth welfare office has been participating in the state initiative “kinderstark – NRW creates opportunities,” which promotes the development of so-called municipal prevention chains. These are intended to accompany families from pregnancy to young adulthood and provide tailored support services.

District Councilor Ralf Schmallenbach emphasized the importance of the new facility at the opening: “With the family office in Waldbröl, we are adding another important building block for a strong and family-friendly infrastructure in the Oberbergischer Kreis. I have supported the family office project from the beginning because I am convinced: Prevention, early support, and good networking are not optional extras but central tasks for the future.”

The goal of the family offices is to support families early and provide them with guidance. “Families should not have to search long when they need support. They should have a reliable point of contact in their community – approachable, low-threshold, and well-networked,” Schmallenbach said.

At the family office, parents receive support with questions about parenting, school, or daycare, information about benefits and support services, as well as help with family challenges. Additionally, group activities for children, young people, and adults, as well as open formats like parent cafés, are planned. The project is scientifically accompanied by the University of Siegen.

Ralf Schmallenbach particularly thanked the sponsor Internationaler Bund (IB) West for the local implementation. “Especially in difficult times, it becomes evident with what dedication and reliability work is being done here,” he said.

The district councilor also clarified that the opening of the family office is not related to the closure of the neighborhood office in Waldbröl-Eichen. The developments have taken place independently. At the same time, he emphasized that the people in Eichen should continue to be reached. The central location of the family office is intended to serve as an “anchor point” for families in Waldbröl in the future.

The sponsor of the family office is the Internationaler Bund (IB) West. The goal is to guide families through the existing network of counseling and support services and to identify local needs.
