AGewiS has completed its first external examination for nursing assistance "Milestone for its own educational work for nursing in the Oberberg district"

Oberberg District. The Academy for Health Economy and Seniors (AGewiS) has successfully completed its first external examination for nursing assistance (North Rhine-Westphalia). Nine participants mastered the challenging exam with great commitment after an intensive six-week preparatory course. They have thus laid the foundation for their further professional careers in nursing.

AGewiS sees this successful completion not only as an important step for the participants but also as a milestone for its own educational work in nursing in the Oberbergischer Kreis. “This external examination underscores the high importance of professional training in the nursing field and enhances the recognition of practical competencies,” says AGewiS director Nicole Meyer. "With this first successfully completed external examination, AGewiS sets a clear signal for the quality, permeability, and future viability of qualification programs in healthcare. This makes a significant contribution to securing skilled personnel in nursing and opens up new perspectives for individual career paths."

The uniqueness of this new examination format lies in its target group: nursing staff who have been working in nursing for many years but have not yet undergone formal training. After a six-week preparatory course, they have now completed the state examination with a written, oral, and practical component – analogous to the nursing assistant examination.
"People who already have professional experience in nursing can have their competencies recognized through targeted preparation and a formal examination. The course combines compact theoretical units, practice-oriented learning phases, and intensive self-study periods – a concept that has particularly challenged but also sustainably supported the participants.", says Frank Herhaus, Economic Development Officer of the Oberbergischer Kreis and Managing Director of AGewiS.

The course was accompanied by the dedicated AGewiS lecturers Benita Bola-Kiasi and Julia Bubenheim, who supported the learning process with pedagogical sensitivity.
“The commitment and willingness to learn of the participants were impressive. Their success shows that motivation and structure can go hand in hand,” say the course supervisors. With the successful completion of this external examination, participants now have access to a recognized professional qualification and simultaneously gain the opportunity to continue their education and enter the three-year nursing training program.
