VHS Oberberg: Free Reading on the Anniversary of Margot Friedländer's Passing "Try to Be a Human Being"

Oberbergischer Kreis. On Friday, May 8, 2026, at 7:00 PM, a free reading titled „Tried to Be a Human Being“ will take place in the multipurpose room of the Bürgerräume in Radevormwald (Schlossstraße 4) on the occasion of the first anniversary of Margot Friedländer's passing.
A day later, on May 9, 2026, the first anniversary of Margot Friedländer's death will be observed. Born in Berlin in 1921, the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit was one of the most well-known witnesses of the Holocaust. The reading is organized by the initiators Irmgard Hannoschöck, Werner Rosenthal, and Wilfried Körbel, together with Iris Metzler from the Radevormwald city archive and the VHS Oberberg.
The focus of the reading is on three Jewish women who lived under unimaginable conditions in the Theresienstadt concentration camp: Margot Friedländer, Radevormwald native Herta Berthold, and the Czech-German-speaking writer Ilse Weber. The three women never met.
The reading is seen as an opportunity to take up the baton of these witnesses of the Nazi dictatorship and to counteract forgetting with remembrance.
