Schloss Homburg - Scientist Sheds Light on the Background of Museum History Free Lecture on Museum Founding at Schloss Homburg

Oberbergischer Kreis. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the museum at Schloss Homburg, the museum and the Bergische Geschichtsverein invite all interested parties to a special lecture on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The renowned museum scientist Prof. Dr. Dr. Markus Walz will explore developments in the museum landscape as well as the historical backgrounds of the opening of the museum at Schloss Homburg in 1926—a time when many local museums were founded in Germany.

Professor Walz, who serves as a Professor of Theoretical and Historical Museology at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences for Technology, Economics, and Culture, will combine historical context with an illustrative look at regional museum history in his lecture.

The event will take place in the New Orangery at Schloss Homburg. Admission begins at 6:00 PM, and the lecture starts at 7:00 PM. Entry is free, and registration is not required.
