Road damage on the L 339 requires temporary speed reduction Measures serve the safety of all road users

Oberbergischer Kreis. The district administration of Oberbergischer Kreis refers to the feedback and reports on speed restrictions and controls on the L 339 between Nümbrecht-Gaderoth and Waldbröl-Bröl.

Responsibility for imposing the speed restrictions in this case lies with the state road authority Straßen.NRW as the road construction authority, in coordination with the traffic authority of Oberbergischer Kreis and the district police authority. The measures are due to significant road damage, which occurred mainly as a result of winter weather conditions. These were identified by the responsible road maintenance department in Waldbröl. In close coordination with authorities, short-term repairs were carried out, and the speed was reduced as a precaution.

The previous repairs can only temporarily mitigate the damage. The road requires comprehensive rehabilitation, and not all problem areas are visible on the surface. Water infiltration can cause new damage at any time, such as the sudden appearance of potholes.

Against this background, the speed restrictions aim to reduce risks for road users and vehicles. The goal is to prevent accidents and damage as much as possible until comprehensive road rehabilitation, planned for the year 2027, can be implemented.

The Cologne district government has meanwhile reviewed the measures and repeatedly confirmed that they are legally permissible and necessary for traffic safety reasons. This also includes speed controls using the stationary speed monitoring system in Niederbröl.

The controls are intended to support compliance with the reduced speed limits and thus contribute to safety on the route. The signage complies with applicable regulations and is clearly visible to all road users.

The district administration asks for understanding for the necessary measures to increase traffic safety. The implementation of the route rehabilitation, which is a condition for the removal of the speed restrictions due to the road condition, is scheduled for the year 2027 according to the state road construction authority NRW.
