Extended use: District provides new sports hall at the Kaufmännisches Berufskolleg in Waldbröl Ceremonial key handover for rapid completion

Oberbergischer Kreis. After a construction period of only 14 months, the Oberbergischer Kreis can provide the new sports hall on the grounds of the Kaufmännisches Berufskolleg Oberberg in Waldbröl. Accordingly, the official key handover took place cheerfully between District Administrator Klaus Grootens, Oliver Schierz from the executing Quast company (Siegen), and Torsten Joest, location manager of the Kaufmännisches Berufskolleg Oberberg in Waldbröl. The hall aims to ensure local physical education at the vocational college. After the summer holidays, the approximately 300 vocational students will have their first physical education classes there. In addition, the new sports facility on Dr. Goldenbogen-Straße is also available for recreational sports. Hall times are already allocated for the TuS 06 Waldbröl and the Volkshochschule.

“This is a good day for the students of the vocational college and for the citizens. It is an investment in education, made possible through a funding program to realize this project,” says District Administrator Klaus Grootens.
The project costs amount to approximately 4.5 million euros, 2.5 million euros of which are subsidies from the Municipal Investment Promotion Act. The modern sports facility features two halls, (accessible) washing and changing rooms.

In the basement of the sports hall, there is a multipurpose room with a 140 sqm area and a sprung floor, suitable for activities such as gymnastics, dance, and yoga. On the ground floor of the sports facility, a 430 square meter hall is available for ball sports such as handball, volleyball, and basketball, as well as badminton with three courts.

“The sports hall is equipped with a green roof, on which a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 43 kWp operates. The building is heated using a heat pump,” explains District Building Officer Felix Ammann. Waldbröl's Mayor Larissa Weber thanks the Oberberg district for “the good investment in the health of the local people ... also for future generations.”

For site manager Torsten Joest, the new sports hall also brings significant time savings, as the previously necessary trips to the sports lessons at the Waldbröl Gymnasium will no longer be required. Two female teachers are particularly impressed by the light-flooded hall spaces of the new sports facility: “Here, a few yoga exercises for relaxation during the lunch break are an easy option!”
