District secures career field exploration for 36 young people A short-term solution was implemented with regional partners

Practical Insights into Everyday Working Life

Together with the Kunststoff Initiative Oberberg (KIO e. V.) and the Pflegenetzwerk Oberberg (P.NetO e. V.), the Oberberg District provided insights into the professional world. At ONI-Wärmetrafo GmbH and the Deutschordens-Altenzentrum Pfarrer-Braun-Haus, 36 young people learned about workflows and various professional activities.

At ONI, the students were able to try soldering techniques themselves. They built simple electrical circuits and became familiar with technical training professions. At the Pfarrer-Braun-Haus, the young people simulated the preparation for medication administration and learned about typical tasks in nursing professions.

“Through collaboration with regional companies, the Oberberg District ensures that students gain realistic insights into the professional world at an early stage, enabling them to recognize and develop their personal skills and interests. A heartfelt thank you goes to the employees of KoKo and the participating companies for their commitment. Only through joint efforts is it possible to provide young people with practical insights into the diversity of professions,” says District Administrator Klaus Grootens.

“It's worth it. My favorite part was the tour of the company. I understood what is being produced there, and we even got to do some hands-on work ourselves. That's exactly my thing,” reported one of the young participants after the career field exploration in Lindlar. 

“Days like these provide the greatest benefit for our students. They experience professions up close and simultaneously overcome inhibitions,” says Miriam Engelmann, class teacher and career guidance coordinator at the Lindlar Community Secondary School.

So no opportunity is lost

The career field exploration is part of the state initiative “No Qualification without Connection” (KAoA). 

As part of career guidance in schools in the Oberberg District, students in grade 8 will explore at least three different career fields over three separate days.

The career field exploration offers the opportunity to discover one's strengths and interests in various career fields, thereby developing an initial realistic career perspective.

In the subsequent internship, a profession is explored more intensively. This gradually builds the necessary confidence and certainty for future training or study decisions. Career field exploration thus forms the basis for successful career and study orientation.
