Exhibition "Climate in Transition: How Can We Adapt to It?" Practical information and measures for citizens

Oberbergischer Kreis and Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis. Show concrete courses of action to actively protect our climate: with practical offers, the Oberbergischer Kreis, the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, and the Bergisches Energie- und Ressourcenzentrum (BERZ) aim to inspire citizens to adopt measures in their daily lives. The cooperation partners have brought the traveling exhibition “Climate in Change: How can we adapt to it?” to the region. It provides a practical overview of the impacts of climate change on rural regions and illustrates with concrete examples how adaptation measures can be successfully implemented.
Interested citizens can use the diverse information offered free of charge: from July 17, 2026, to August 5, 2026, at the House of the Future on :metabolon, Am Berkebach 1 in Lindlar, daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The traveling exhibition was designed by the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation for Environment and Development on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

Potentials, Examples, and Synergies

The traveling exhibition informs, among other things, how citizens can protect their homes from extreme weather events such as heat waves and highlights the positive effects of measures such as de-sealing, shading, and greening. Improvements in water management in cities and municipalities are also presented to demonstrate how climate change and adaptation measures are transforming agriculture and forests.
“Climate protection remains important to limit and manage the consequences of climate change. The traveling exhibition also shows how climate adaptation can look locally and makes it impressively clear that adapting to the effects of climate changes is necessary in many areas,” said Frank Herhaus, Environmental Director of the Oberbergischer Kreis.

The traveling exhibition leads directly to the BERZ permanent exhibition, which informs visitors about the topics of energy and energy efficiency, climate protection, and energy-efficient construction and renovation – also free of charge.

Climate Change Adaptation as a Municipal Topic

The Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, with its climate protection sub-concept for adapting to climate change (www.rbk-direkt.de/konzepte), and the Oberbergischer Kreis, with its inter-municipal climate change adaptation concept (www.obk.de/cms200/pbu/ero/kwak), have laid the foundation to secure necessary funding to engage in the area of climate change adaptation. The traveling exhibition illustrates and explains measures that the districts and municipalities also aim to implement in the coming years.

“The innovation site :metabolon is an excellent place to show citizens how the transition to a sustainable use of resources can succeed and how we can already adapt to the consequences of climate change today,” says Heiko Krause, Environmental Commissioner of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis.

The exhibition also invites visitors to explore the :metabolon site and learn about sustainable circular economy. Admission is also free here.

The Energy & Climate Coordination Office (EKKO) of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis and the Coordination Office Climate-Environment-Nature-Oberberg of the Oberbergischer Kreis are available to citizens, municipalities, and businesses in the two districts as central contact points for questions regarding energy savings, climate protection, and climate adaptation.
