The young adults look back on an intense and sometimes challenging year in grade 9. Partly alongside family and work, they attended evening courses from Monday to Friday. Subjects such as math, biology, and history were on the curriculum. For some, who have not been in Germany for long, the language barrier was a major challenge. However, all students showed great motivation and commitment.
The graduates are now ready for new paths: For some, the graduation is the first step towards an apprenticeship. Many of the participants are now taking the opportunity to also obtain the secondary school leaving certificate after grade 10a (the Extended First School Leaving Certificate).
Barbara Prinz, the new head of department for school leaving courses, emphasizes: “We are very pleased that we can continue to support many of the graduates on their journey next school year. Most of them have already registered for the Extended First School Leaving Certificate – a wonderful sign that learning together is very motivating!”
New school leaving courses start in September 2026
The next course “First School Leaving Certificate (after grade 9)” starts on September 2, 2026, and runs until July 16, 2027. In the upcoming school year, there will also be a morning course in addition to the evening course.
The evening course “Extended First School Leaving Certificate (after grade 10a)” takes place from
September 2, 2026 – February 5, 2027.
