Raising Awareness and Networking: “Tour Dementia" made a stop at AGewiS The two-day cycling and networking tour covers around 190 kilometers, passing through the Oberbergischer Bergischer Kreis.

Oberbergischer Kreis. By participating in the 'Tour Dementia,' the Oberbergischer Kreis once again advocates for a self-determined life for people with dementia. Around World Alzheimer's Day, the annual 'Tour Dementia' of the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia Bergisches Land takes place.
The two-day cycling and networking tour covers about 190 kilometers through Remscheid, Solingen, Wuppertal, as well as the Oberbergischer and Rheinisch-Bergischer districts. The theme of this year's 'Tour Dementia' is resilience: crisis resilience and dementia resilience. It focuses on how people with dementia and their families can find support and strength even in difficult and challenging times. Along the route, a total of twelve locations are visited, which are involved in various ways in the fields of aging, care, and dementia, including the AGewiS in Gummersbach.

Making important statements for the needs of people with dementia and their families

The cycling team was welcomed with cheers and a guard of honor upon arriving at the AGewiS, supported by Academy Director Nicole Meyer, numerous AGewiS trainees; Nicole Breidenbach, Managing Director of the Oberberg Care Network e.V. (P.NetO), as well as Gummersbach's Mayor Raoul Halding-Hoppenheit and Lukas Miebach, Mayor of Engelskirchen.
With colorful chalk, the AGewiS trainees had written and drawn striking statements, thoughts, and ideas about dementia on the cycling path. This accompanying action also has a symbolic character, says Nicole Meyer: "Over time, the chalk will fade, just as memories fade for people with dementia. We capture these changes with the camera to visually convey this process. Not only do we raise awareness of the living situation of people with dementia, but we also showcase support services for those affected and their families. As a network partner, AGewiS is happy to host a station as part of the 'Tour Dementia' to inform and promote exchange about this condition."
From the AGewiS, the cycling group set off for the next destination at the day care center Johannesstift in Hückeswagen. With the 'Tour Dementia' in 2026, the network partners and participants aim to demonstrate that 'dementia and crisis resilience' can best be achieved through networking and the collaboration of different stakeholders.
