Still perceivable smell of fire in the Oberbergischer Kreis Air measurements are still ongoing.

Oberbergischer Kreis. Due to the forest and vegetation fire in the northern Eifel, the smell of fire is occasionally noticeable in the Oberbergischer Kreis, depending on the weather conditions. The odor threshold for fire gases is very low, meaning that the smell of fire can be detected early and persist for a long time. However, this does not necessarily imply a direct health hazard.

Regarding the measurements in the Städteregion Aachen, district fire chief Julian Seeger has also initiated measurements in the Oberbergischer Kreis. The air is being analyzed for fire-related substances.

Overall, the current measurements remain below thresholds for sustained or severe health impacts everywhere. However, the smell of fire is never healthy. Therefore, the district recommends keeping windows and doors closed during acute fire odor.

The wind, wind direction, and precipitation determine the intensity of the fire smell. In recent days, the German Weather Service has repeatedly provided spread forecasts for the Oberbergischer Kreis based on the weather conditions. These forecasts guide recommendations made by district fire chief Julian Seeger in close coordination with his colleagues from Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, who are also affected. "It should be noted, firstly, that the perceptible smell of fire currently poses no health hazard. However, we will likely have to deal with this situation for weeks," said district fire chief Julian Seeger.
