State School Sports Festival

The State School Sports Festival is the largest youth sports event in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is not solely about achieving the highest athletic performance but rather about the Olympic ideal: Participation is everything (www.sporttalente.nrw)!

The school authority organizes the competitions and events of the State School Sports Festival, oversees their implementation, and evaluates these events. Schools in the Oberbergischer Kreis compete against each other in various sports and competition categories and have the opportunity to qualify for championships at the district, state, or national levels ("Youth Trains for the Olympics").

The school authority is responsible for the following:

• Announcing the competitions

• Creating schedules and certificates

• Conducting preliminary tournaments, district championships, district main rounds, and district final rounds

• Organizing referees and officials, reserving venues

• Arranging team transportation (obtaining quotes, placing orders, handling invoices)

• Evaluating results and reporting to the district government or the state school sports office in Düsseldorf

• Settling referee expenses

• Managing funds

• Preparing district committee meetings

• Participating in district committee meetings

• Organizing and hosting the NRW Handball State Final Tournaments for boys and girls over the last 7 years (a total of 4 tournaments over 2 days at the Schwalbe Arena)

• Supporting competitions as part of "Youth Trains for Paralympics"

• Application and approval processes for granting allowances for material and travel expenses related to extracurricular school sports events

• NRW can Swim

• Federal Youth Games

• Supporting collaboration between schools and sports clubs in extracurricular school sports and local child and youth sports development
