Volunteering Card & Proof of Engagement

You can apply for the card if you volunteer 4 hours per week or 200 hours per year.

This is also possible if you receive a reimbursement, provided it does not exceed the tax-free allowance for the volunteer allowance (€960) or the trainer allowance (€3,300).

You can apply for the card directly through the Ehrenamtskarte app!

If you do not wish to apply for a digital Ehrenamtskarte via the app, the Ehrenamtskarte can still be applied for as a physical card by postal mail.

The Oberbergischer Kreis issues the Ehrenamtskarte to citizens from Bergneustadt, Gummersbach, Lindlar, Marienheide, Waldbröl, Wiehl, and Wipperfürth. To apply, please contact the Department of Civic Engagement and Volunteering (contact details at the bottom of the page).

The card has a limited validity period, usually two or three years. After expiration, you can, of course, apply for a new Ehrenamtskarte. 

In addition to the NRW Volunteer Card, the state is introducing a Jubilee Volunteer Card with unlimited validity for long-term voluntary engagement. It is intended for long-term volunteers who cannot or no longer meet the requirement of five hours of voluntary activity per week.

The prerequisite for receiving the Jubilee Volunteer Card is at least 25 years of voluntary engagement. This engagement can also be performed in different organizations. Interruptions in the engagement biography (for example, for periods of child-rearing or caregiving) are accepted. The Jubilee Volunteer Card is valid for a lifetime. Therefore, an extension or reapplication is not required. All benefits offered for the statewide Volunteer Card can also be claimed with the Jubilee Volunteer Card.
