Subsistence in special forms of housing

People living in a special form of housing who are unable to secure their livelihood through their own income or assets can apply for subsistence benefits. This may include assistance for living expenses or basic security under the Social Code, Twelfth Book (SGB XII).

Special forms of housing are usually residential homes for people with intellectual, physical, or psychological disabilities who are entitled to integration assistance.

The responsibility of the Oberbergischer Kreis depends on whether the residents of the special form of housing lived in a municipality of the district before they first moved into a special form of housing (until 2019: institution).

When applying, in addition to personal information, proof of disability, health insurance, accommodation costs, income and assets, and bank statements must be provided. Benefits can be granted if the assets do not exceed the amount of 10,000.00 EUR.

The application can be made in writing or in person at the Oberbergischer Kreis.
