Household waste disposal

The disposal of household waste is fundamentally carried out in two phases with different responsibilities.

Phase 1
The cities and municipalities are responsible under state law for collecting and transporting household waste to disposal facilities.

Phase 2
Operating facilities or installations for recycling or disposing of household waste is the responsibility of the district.

Both public waste management entities can, however, delegate their tasks to third parties.

For example, the Bergischer Waste Management Association (BAV, see right) based in Engelskirchen or the Waste Collection and Transport Association Oberberg (ASTO, see right) fulfill the duties of the Oberbergischer Kreis.
In Lindlar-Remshagen, the BAV operates the Leppe Disposal Center, where private households and businesses can drop off waste.

Details and principles of the disposal system are outlined in the respective waste ordinances.

The organizations tasked with disposal create waste calendars. Here you can find information on the disposal of electronic devices, garden waste/green cuttings, medicines, hazardous waste (e.g., via hazardous substance mobile units), recycling.

A fire extinguisher must not be disposed of in household waste. The Leppe Disposal Center, the recycling centers of the public waste management entity, the local fire department, or fire protection companies can act as return locations.
