Take-back Obligations (Waste Oil, Batteries, etc.)

Waste Oil

For waste oil from private sources, the Waste Oil Ordinance provides for free take-back by retailers.
The same applies to the take-back of oil filters.

When purchasing fresh oil, waste oil can be returned in the same quantity as the fresh oil purchased.

Old stocks of waste oil that are not subject to the take-back obligation under the Waste Oil Ordinance can be disposed of for a fee at AVEA Aufbereitungs- und Deponierungsgesellschaft mbH (ADG) at the Zentraldeponie Leppe in 51789 Lindlar-Remshagen.

Used Batteries and Accumulators

For used batteries and accumulators, the Battery Ordinance also provides for free take-back by retailers. Accordingly, battery distributors must take back used batteries from end consumers free of charge. However, this take-back obligation only applies to batteries of the type that the distributor carries or has carried in their product range and to the quantity typically disposed of by consumers (e.g., the battery of an e-bike).

Free returns are possible through the Bergischer Abfallwirtschaftsverband (BAV) as part of the hazardous waste mobile service. The Zentraldeponie Leppe, 51789 Lindlar, also accepts batteries and accumulators.

Vehicle Batteries

When purchasing a new vehicle battery, the old vehicle battery (car, motorcycle) can be returned free of charge.

Old stocks of vehicle batteries can be disposed of at certified vehicle dismantling companies, at vehicle battery retailers, or at the public waste management authority.
