Domestic wastewater

The discharge of treated domestic wastewater into a surface water body or groundwater constitutes a water usage that requires authorization. The construction and operation of small wastewater treatment plants for wastewater disposal on individual properties in rural areas also often require water law approval. The Lower Water Authority is responsible for granting this authorization/approval.

When discharging into the ground, the soil's absorption capacity and the harmless disposal must be demonstrated through a hydrogeological report. In addition to natural purification methods (plant treatment systems), technical processes are also frequently used. Technical processes include, for example: fluidized bed systems, SBR systems, activated sludge systems, trickling filter systems, etc.

The legislator requires proof of a concluded maintenance contract after the installation of the aforementioned systems, ensuring proper operation and maintenance of the small wastewater treatment plants (KKA) in accordance with DIN 4261 or the respective construction approval.
