Conversion of Service Driving License
If you possess or previously possessed a service driving license from the military, federal police, or police, you may be granted a general driving license for the corresponding categories under certain conditions.

With a service driving license (e.g., from the Bundeswehr, the Federal Police, or the Police), you are generally allowed to operate service vehicles only, not private vehicles.
However, based on your service driving license, you can apply to the locally responsible driver's license authority for a general driver's license in the form of an EU card driver's license. The application must be submitted personally after scheduling an appointment.
The following documents are required to apply for the conversion:
- Valid official identification document
- Service driving license
- Already existing civilian driving license
- Current biometric passport photo
- In certain cases, a medical, ophthalmological, or performance examination is additionally required.
