In traffic violations, these include speeding offenses determined by the police and the Central Fines Office, as well as examples such as:

• disregarding overtaking bans,
• running red lights,
• failure to wear a seatbelt,
• illegal use of a mobile phone while driving,
• technical defects in the vehicle, or
• driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The employees initiate administrative offense proceedings, issue fine notices or make warning fine offers, process objections, and monitor the enforcement of driving bans or outstanding payments.

General administrative offenses refer to various violations. The cases are reported to the Central Fines Office by other departments of the district administration (e.g., district environmental office) and other authorities (e.g., Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility, other police authorities). These include, for example, violations in the following areas:

• Building law,
• Environmental law,
• Weapons law,
• Food law,
• Illegal employment,
• Driving personnel law (driving and rest times for commercial truck and bus drivers),
• Passenger transportation law (taxi and rental car companies), or 
• Driving instructor law.

The staff issue fine notices or offer warnings with fines, process objections, and monitor the enforcement of outstanding claims. However, the decision to initiate administrative offense proceedings is usually made by the specialized department (e.g., district environmental office) or the other authority at their own discretion.
