Red Permanent License Plate for Classic Cars According to § 43 FZV

For vintage cars participating in vintage car events, red license plates can be assigned. These are events showcasing vintage vehicles and preserving automotive cultural heritage. Permitted are journeys within the framework of vintage car events, including arrivals and departures. Additionally, test drives, inspection drives, and transfer journeys are allowed. Other journeys are not permitted.

Vintage cars are vehicles that were first registered at least 30 years ago. They must largely correspond to the original condition, be well-maintained, and serve the preservation of automotive cultural heritage.

Your requirements

• Reliability

• You own one or more vintage cars with which you participate in vintage car events. For each vehicle, there is both a vintage car appraisal according to §23 StVZO and a valid main inspection. The vehicles must be deregistered.
  

Note: Any arrears in vehicle tax or other fees must be settled beforehand.

Allocation

• You will receive the license plates and a vehicle registration booklet.

• The license plates are assigned indefinitely but revocably. You may use them repeatedly, even on different vehicles listed in the vehicle registration booklet.

• You specify the vehicles you want to use with the red license plates. The registration office enters the vehicles into the vehicle registration booklet.

• The vehicle registration booklet must be carried during the drive.

Handling the documents

• If you sell a vehicle or for other reasons will no longer use it with the red license plates, bring the vehicle registration booklet to the registration office. We will remove the vehicle entry.

Revocation

• The allocation can be revoked if...
  reliability of the owner is questioned,
  the authorization ceases (vehicles were sold), or
  no insurance coverage exists.

• In the event of revocation, return the license plates and the vehicle registration booklet to the registration office immediately. The logbook must be retained for one year.

The following journeys are allowed with red license plates:

• Journeys within the framework of vintage car events, including arrivals and departures

• Test drives
  Journeys to determine or prove the usability of vehicles. A test drive can no longer be regarded as such if the same vehicle is regularly used.

• Inspection drives
  Journeys where a vehicle is inspected by an officially recognized expert or inspector of motor vehicle traffic.
