Successful graduation for two classes of paramedics at AGewiS Reinforcement for rescue services and fire departments in the Oberberg district and the surrounding regions.
Oberbergischer Kreis. 21 out of a total of 28 trainees who took the exam successfully passed their state examination to become paramedics. With the completion of their three-year training at the AGewiS, they are now available as qualified professionals for emergency medical care.
Nine of the successful graduates will be employed by the Emergency Service of the Oberbergischer Kreis. One graduate each will return to the Lüdenscheid Fire Department and the Plettenberg Fire Department. Four new paramedics will strengthen the Bergisch Gladbach Fire Department, and six others will join the emergency services of the Märkischer Kreis. All successful exam participants will be retained by their current employers.
The director of the AGewiS, Frank Herhaus, praised the achievements of the graduates and emphasized the special responsibility associated with the paramedic profession: "You make important decisions in time-critical situations and take responsibility for people who often rely on quick and competent help in existential life situations."
Dr. Ralf Mühlenhaus, the medical director of the emergency medical school, illustrated the importance of the various actors in emergency services with an analogy: “For patients and relatives, the operation is primarily visible. On this stage, the paramedic represents the emergency service,” he said. Behind the scenes, however, many people work to ensure that this system functions – from procuring medications to dispatching emergency resources to quality management. The professional competence of the paramedic is indispensable, according to the medical director. At the same time, it is crucial to listen, convey help understandably, and provide orientation to people in stressful situations.
The two course leaders, Artur Majewski and Christoph Hullmann, reflected on the past three years of training. A group of individuals with diverse professional and personal experiences had become a team that went through the training period together and successfully overcame the challenges of the examination.
The graduates also shared their personal reflections. Course representative Leon Kues looked back on the past 5,630 hours of training. It had been characterized by shared challenges, intensive learning phases, and experiences that bonded the course both professionally and personally.
Training at AGewiS is conducted in collaboration with the emergency services of the Oberbergischer Kreis, the Lüdenscheid Fire Department, the Plettenberg Fire Department, the Bergisch Gladbach Fire Department, and the emergency services of the Märkischer Kreis. With the successful completion of the two courses, the region gains 21 new paramedics for qualified, reliable, and local emergency care.
